LAST TIME OUT

In the final dual meet of the regular season, the Notre Dame swimming and diving teams swept UIC at the Rolfs Aquatic Center this past Saturday. The 20th-ranked women’s team defeated the Flames 204-86 while the men won by a score of 173-96.

Both teams were dominant in the pool on Saturday as the women won 15 of the 16 events and the men came away with wins in 13 of the 16 events. The women swept the podium seven times on the afternoon and the men came away with five podium sweeps.

Madelyn Christman led the way for the women with three event wins as a number of women won events for the Irish. In total between individual events and relays, 16 different women finished first against the Flames. Zachary Smith and Luke Uttley led the way for the men with three event wins each.

Christman anchored the winning 400 medley relay team with Jess Geirane, Reese Lugbill and Madison Feehery to open up the meet for the Irish. They finished with a time of 1:42.00. Bryce Ortanes, Parker Macy, Max Myers and Chris Guiliano were the winning 400 medley relay team on the men’s side with a winning time of 1:29.90.

A freshman sweep followed in the 1000 free as Sophia Karras finished first for the women while Josh Brown earned the win for the men. Karras finished with a time of 10:07.93 and Brown finished with a 9:22.33. The freshman streak continued for the women as Mary Cate Pruitt came away victorious in the 200 free with a time of 1:50.54. Smith earned his first win of the afternoon on the men’s side in the 200 free with a time of 1:37.37.

Christman got her second win in the 100 back with a winning time of 55.00. Junior Cason Wilburn won on the men’s side, clocking in with a 48.39. Upperclassmen claimed the next two wins for the Irish as seniors Sarah Nicholls (1:02.89) and Josh Bottelberghe (52.61) both won the 100 breast. Bottelberghe’s time in the event hit the NCAA B Cut standard.

In the 200 fly, Allison Kopac posted a winning time of 2:03.59, to earn her first win of the meet. Smith claimed his second event win on the men’s side after finishing with a 1:50.50. The winning continued for the Irish as Megan Deuel (23.77) and Uttley (20.43) picked up wins in the 50 free.

On the diving board, Kelly Straub won the 3-meter event with a score of 354.08 and Caroline Brady finished third with a score of 297.08. On the men’s side, David Petrison placed third in the 1-meter diving with a 266.18.

Sophomore Peyton D’Emanuele came in first in the 100 free with a winning time of 51.27. On the men’s side, Uttley won his second event of the day with a personal-best time of 44.27. Deuel claimed her second win of the meet in the 200 back with a winning time of 1:59.38 while Nicholas Chase won on the men’s side with a 1:49.87.

Junior Meghan Lyons claimed her first win of the meet in the 200 breast with a 2:18.24 final time. Another Irish sweep occurred in the 500 free Sydney Whiting won on the women’s side with a time of 5:05.60. Smith won his third and final event of the day on the men’s side with a winning time of 4:26.36. Bottelberghe claimed his second win of the day in the 100 fly with a time of 48.39. Rhianna Hensler won for the women with a time of 55.46.

Back on the diving board, Straub (293.25) and Brady (291.30) finished second and third in the 1-meter diving. Petrison earned his second podium finish of the time, finishing third in the 3-meter diving (285.45).

Wilburn picked up his second win in the 200 IM with a final time of 1:49.73. Junior Sydney Winters claimed the win for the women with a winning time of 2:03.67.

Christman, Feehery, Quinn Scannell and D’Emanuele were victorious in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:29.37. Uttley, Alec DeLong, Guiliano and Andrew Guziec won on the men’s side with a 3:01.08. Uttley finished his leg of the 100 free with a time of 44.27 to surpass his personal-best time he set earlier in the meet.
