Meaghan Fitzpatrick, Caitlin McKinney And Tracy Coyne Take Weekly Women's Lacrosse Honors

Notre Dame, Ind. – Three members of the 11th-ranked Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team have been named winners of weekly awards for their play in last week’s 13-8 win over ninth-ranked Georgetown at Moose Krause Stadium.

Senior defender Meaghan Fitzpatrick (Farmingdale, N.Y.) heads the list as the BIG EAST defensive player of the week. Fitzpatrick drew the defensive assignment of stopping Georgetown’s top scorer, Coco Stanwick, holding the Hoya’s senior attack All-American to one goal and one assist in the game. Along the way, Fitzpatrick grabbed five ground balls and caused two turnovers as Notre Dame handed Georgetown its first-ever BIG EAST loss, snapping a 37-game conference win streak. For the season, Fitzpatrick has 20 ground balls, nine draw controls and 12 caused turnovers.

Junior Caitlin McKinney (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) was named WomensLax.com player of the week as she led Notre Dame’s offense against Georgetown, scoring one goal and adding a career-high four assists for a five-point afternoon against the Hoyas. With the five-point game, McKinney extended her personal-point scoring streak to 36 games, tying the Notre Dame record held by Danielle Shearer `03. McKinney’s streak started on April 24, 2005, during her freshman year. During the streak, McKinney has 86 goals and 43 assists for 129 points. She is currently the team’s leading scorer with 36 goals and 20 assists for 56 points.

Tracy Coyne was named U.S. Lacrosse Coach of the Week as the Irish ended Georgetown’s 37-game BIG EAST winning streak.

Notre Dame head coach Tracy Coyne (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was named the U.S. Lacrosse coach of the week for the week ending April 15th for guiding the Irish to their 13-8 BIG EAST win over Georgetown, snapping the Hoyas’ 37-game conference winning streak. The victory improved Notre Dame to 11-3 on the season and 3-1 in BIG EAST play. The Irish, Georgetown and Syracuse are all tied for first in the BIG EAST with one conference game left to play this weekend. Notre Dame will host Rutgers and Syracuse plays Loyola on Saturday, April 21. Georgetown faces Connecticut on Sunday, April 22 to close the regular season. Coyne is now 98-67 (.594) in her 11th season at Notre Dame and owns a career record of 212-93 (.695) in 20 years of coaching.

The Irish will return to action this week on Wednesday, April 18 when they travel to Nashville, Tenn., to face the 15th ranked Vanderbilt Commodores. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. (CST). Notre Dame closes out the regular season on Sat., April 21, when the Irish play host to 18th-ranked Rutgers. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. at Moose Krause Stadium.
