Mayer Named John Mackey Tight End of the Week

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Sophomore tight end Michael Mayer was named John Mackey Tight End of the Week following his performance in the win over Toledo last Saturday.

Mayer had another complete game for the Irish as he had seven receptions for 81 yards and two touchdowns against Toledo. He hauled in the game-winning touchdown with 1:09 minutes remaining for his second touchdown of the afternoon and his first multi-touchdown game of his career.

He has collected seven or more receptions in three consecutive games dating back to last season. He is the first Irish receiver to record seven or more receptions in three-straight games since Michael Floyd during the 2011 season. He is also the first Irish tight end to have two touchdowns in a game since Alize Mack against Florida State on Nov. 10, 2018.
