COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Sophomore Samantha Maxwell turned in a top-10 finish during Friday morning’s preliminary session in the 100 Breast to begin day two of the 2009 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships at the Student Rec Center Natatorium on the campus of Texas A&M. Her 59.73 performance broke her own school record and was the first sub-1:00.00 mark recorded in program history.
But her work was not done.
Maxwell placed sixth in the finals with a 59.44 to reset the school record and earn her first All-America accolade. It was also the highest finish ever by a Notre Dame swimmer in the 100 Breast at the NCAAs.
The swim earned Notre Dame 13 points in the overall team standings, as the Irish now find themselves in 28th place.
Natalie Stitt (245.65) placed 32nd off the 3-meter board.
On Thursday, sophomore Amywren Miller placed 26th in the 50 Free. Miller swam the course in 22.47.
