Matt Macri Called Up By Minnesota Twins

May 23, 2008

MINNEAPOLIS – Former Notre Dame All-American Matt Macri (’04) has been recalled from Triple-A Rochester to join the big league club Minnesota Twins. Macri will join the team in Detroit for Friday night’s game against the Tigers.

The announcement came after Thursday’s game when the Twins placed infielder Adam Everett on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain.

In 29 games with the Red Wings this season, Macri was batting .263 (26-for-99) with 10 doubles, two triples, one home run and nine RBI. He will wear uniform number 18.

Macri began the 2007 season with the Colorado Rockies Double-A affiliate Tulsa Drillers. He hit safely in 15 of 18 games from June 22-July 16, batting .383 (23-for-60). Macri hit .351 (40-for-114) with five home runs, 15 RBI, 19 runs and 11 walks as a third baseman. He was then promoted to Triple-A Colorado Springs and went 6-for-9 with two doubles, a home run and four RBI in three games for the Sky Sox before being traded.

Minnesota acquired Macri in exchange for pitcher Ramon Ortiz on Aug. 15 of last year. He finished the season with Triple-A Rochester batting .213 (10-for-47) with three home runs and six RBI.
