Matt Landis Named Lacrosse Magazine Player of the Week

May 20, 2015

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Matt Landis saved one of his best defensive performances of his career for when it mattered most.

In last Saturday’s (May 16) 14-10 win over Albany in an NCAA Championship quarterfinal matchup, the 2015 Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year was certainly at his best when he limited Lyle Thompson, who finished his career with an NCAA-record 400 points, to one goal and four assists.

For his efforts, the 6-2, 194-pound junior became the first defenseman to earn Epoch/Lacrosse Magazine Player of the Week honors. Landis also picked up four ground balls in the contest.

Landis has earned 31 starts in the 47 games he has played during his Fighting Irish career and has collected 66 ground balls. He has started all 14 games in 2015 and has a career-best 29 ground balls to his credit. Landis twice was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week this season in leading his Irish squad to the regular-season title.

Landis and his No. 1 seed Irish teammates head to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania this weekend for their national semifinal matchup against No. 4 seed Denver. The Irish and Pioneers, both making their second straight Championship Weekend appearances, faceoff on Saturday at 1 p.m. (ET) at Lincoln Financial Field. The game will be televised live on ESPN2.
