NATIONAL SOCCER COACHING SEMINAR WEBSITE

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — University of Notre Dame director of sports science Matt Howley has been announced as the third guest clinician for the 2016 National Soccer Coaching Seminar, which will be held March 4-5 on the Notre Dame campus.

Howley, along with Carlos Bocanegra, longtime United States Men’s National Team captain and current technical director of Atlanta United FC, and Derin McMains, Notre Dame Student Welfare and Development’s director of mental conditioning, are among a panel of distinguished clinicians set to participate in the annual two-day event hosted at the Loftus Sports Center.

Also headlining the seminar will be Notre Dame men’s head coach and 2013 NCAA champion Bobby Clark and Fighting Irish women’s head coach Theresa Romagnolo, along with men’s soccer associate head coach BJ Craig and assistant coach Michael Casper, and women’s soccer assistant coaches Dawn Siergiej and Diego Bocanegra.

Director of sport science at the University of Notre Dame – Responsible for the enhancement and development of Notre Dame’s comprehensive sports performance program since 2014, overseeing the integration and implementation of a variety of initiatives that include the use of the Catapult wearable GPS tracking system – Has served as strength and conditioning coach for the Notre Dame men’s soccer program for the past five seasons, including the team’s 2013 NCAA Championship campaign – Worked with a variety of Irish athletic programs as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Notre Dame from 2011-14, including men’s soccer, rowing, men’s and women’s golf and women’s tennis – Strength and conditioning coach and high performance manager for the TAC Cup’s Eastern Ranges Football Club in his native Australia from 2007-11 – Completed a pair of internship opportunities at Notre Dame and later with the Australian Football League’s (AFL) Hawthorn Football Club in 2011 – Was a strength and conditioning/sport science assistant with the Melbourne Storm of the National Rugby League from 2009-10 – 2009 graduate of Deakin University with a degree in exercise and sports science, and later earned a Master of Exercise Science (strength and conditioning) degree at Edith Cowan University in 2011

Tony Jones, athletics communications assistant at the University of Notre Dame, has been part of the Fighting Irish athletics communications team since 2012 and coordinates all media efforts for the Notre Dame softball and men’s soccer programs. A native of Jamestown, New York, Jones is a 2011 graduate of St. Bonaventure University, and prior to arriving at Notre Dame held positions at the University of Louisiana at Monroe and with the National Football League’s Buffalo Bills.
