Matt Carroll Named to NIT All-Star Team

Notre Dame, Ind. – Notre Dame junior guard Matt Carroll (Horsham, Pa.) will join nine other collegiate players on the 2001 NIT All-Star Team. The All-Star team is scheduled to play six games against national team from England, Hungary and Czech Republic as well as club teams from Austria and Slovakia from Aug. 8-18.

The NIT All-Star team which was first established in 1979 has featured many outstanding players. In addition to Carroll, the 10-member squad includes: Eric Chatfield (New Mexico), Justin Jackette (Manhattan), Jobey Thomas (UNC-Charlotte), Mark Jarrell-Wright (Fordham), Anthony Glover (St. John’s), Kevin Johnson (Tulsa), Brett Buscher (Purdue), Brody Deren (Creighton) and Corsley Edwards (Central Connecticut).

As a sophomore, Carroll averaged 12.4 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists during the 2000-01 campaign as the Irish won the BIG EAST West Division title. He led Notre Dame in three-point field goals made (65) and three-point field percentage (.409).

The Irish finished last season with a 20-10 record (its second consecutive 20-win campaign) and an 11-5 conference mark, the most wins by a Notre Dame team since becoming a league member in 1995-96.

The NIT All-Star squad opens up play against the national team from England on Fri., Aug. 10.
