Matt Carroll and Chris Thomas Combine For 35 Points In Win Over EA Sports Midwest All-Stars In Final Exhibition Tuneup

Notre Dame, Ind. – Matt Carroll and Chris Thomas combined for 35 points to lead the Notre Dame men’s basketball team to an 81-64 victory over EA Sports Midwest All-Stars in the final exhibition tuneup for before the start of the 2002-03 campaign. Carroll finished with a game-high 18 points, while Thomas tossed in 17 and dished off six assists.

Rookie Torin Francis finished with 13 points and fell one rebound short of a his second double double in exhibition action as he grabbed nine boards. Dan Miller finished with 11 points and seven rebounds in 32 minutes of action.

Notre Dame struggled shooting from the field as the Irish shot just 40.3 percent (29-72) for the outing and converted on just four-of-19 from three-point range (21.1 percent).

Notre Dame held EA Sports to just 37.9 percent accuracy from the field and 21.1 percent from three-point range. In addition, the Irish forced 20 turnovers and outrebounded the visitors 47-38.

Jordan Cornette was impressive off of the bench as he finished with eight points and seven rebounds in 22 minutes of playing time.

The Irish led 38-25 at the break and built a 60-37 nine minutes into the second half. EA Sports got to within 10 points (64-54) with 6:16 remaining in the contest, but Notre Dame closed with a 17-10 run to end the game.

Sergio McClain led four players in double figures as he finished with 13 points.

Notre Dame opens up the regular season when it plays host to Belmont in the first round of the Guardians Classic on Sunday, November 17 at 4:00 p.m. Carroll finished with a game-high 18 points, while Thomas tossed in 17 and dished off six assists.
