Match 2 Preview: Miami (FL)

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame women’s soccer team will be back in action Sunday afternoon to close out the opening conference weekend. The Irish will square off with the Miami in Coral Gables Sunday afternoon at noon on the ACC Network Extra. It will be the fifth time the Irish have traveled to Coral Gables in program history and look to break the 2-2 tie between the two schools in games held there.

KNOW THE OPPONENT: MIAMI HURRICANES

  • The Irish will end the weekend swing with a Sunday match in Coral Gables against Miami.
  • Miami enters the game with an 0-2 record and 0-1 in ACC play after dropping the ACC opener to Louisville Thursday night.
  • Notre Dame holds a 10-2 all-time advantage over the Hurricanes but the series is tied 2-2 down in Coral Gables.
  • Last season, the two teams squared off at Notre Dame and the Irish came away with a 3-0 win.
  • Sammie Fisher scored all three goals in a 12-minute span to lift the Irish to the win.
  • It was Fisher’s first career hat trick, the first Irish hat trick since 2013 and the 69th hat trick in program history.
  • The last time these two teams met in Coral Gables, the Irish came away with a 2-1 win in 2017.
  • Natalie Jacobs and Meghan Doyle scored to give the Irish an early two-goal advantage and they held on for the 2-1 win.

COLLEGIATE FIRSTS IN SEASON OPENER

  • Five new faces made their collegiate debuts Thursday night against Florida State.
  • Eva Gaetino and Eva Wirtz earned spots in the starting lineup while Lucy Mitchell, Ellie Ospeck and Caroline Gray came off the bench for their first collegiate appearances.
  • It is the third straight season at least one freshman has made it in the starting lineup under head coach Nate Norman after Brooke VanDyck got the start in 2018 and Luisa Delgado (R-Fr.) last season.

UP NEXT

The Irish will return to campus following Sunday’s game for the first off week of the season. Action will pick back up at Alumni Stadium on Thursday, October 1 for the home opener against Boston College on ACC Network. It will be the first time the two times will square off since the 2015 season.
