Notre Dame, Ind. – Mark Benishek has been named an assistant director of RecSports and will oversee Rolfs Aquatic Center and Rockne Memorial Pool at the University of Notre Dame. He will be in charge of planning and monitoring all events occurring within Rolfs Aquatic Center.

Benishek has spent the last 18 months serving as aquatics director of the La Crosse Area Family YMCA in La Crosse, Wis. In his role there, Benishek oversaw the scheduling of all aquatic programs that took place at the facility. He also assisted in the recruiting, hiring, training, supervising and evaluating of the aquatic staff.

Prior to that, Benishek served as a recreation site director intern with the Milwaukee Public Schools Recreation Department from September of 2005 until June of 2006. In his time there, he assisted the recreation program staff in planning and conducting a variety of community activities, interpretive programs, special events and outdoor recreation activities for public enjoyment. Benishek also served as a building director of the Gaenslen Community Recreation Center.

Benishek received his bachelor’s of science degree in community education and education policy from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He is expected to complete the degree requirements for his master’s degree in recreation management from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse at the end of the summer 2008.
