Marie Labosky Places 44th And 65th At The US Swimming Open

Federal Way, Wash. – Senior Marie Labosky finished 44th in the 200 backstroke and 65th in the 200 individual medley on day one of the US Open Swimming Championships in Federal Way, Wash. The meet is a prelude to the 2004 Olympic Trials, and ultimately, gives a sneak peek as to who will represent the United States at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

Labosky had her best finish of the day in the 200 breaststroke placing in a time of 2:24.43. Jamie Reid of Highlander Aquatics was first in the morning preliminaries with a time of 2:14.84. In the 200 individual medley, Labosky posted a time of 2:25.03 over the long-course meters pool. Yana Klochkova, competing unattached, was the fastest qualifier in 2:16.87.

Other Irish swimmers competing in Washington included freshman Rebecca Grove and former swimmer Heidi Hendrick. Grove was 106th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.76, while Hendrick was 119th in 28.01. Marleen Veldhuis of the Netherlands was the fastest qualifier in 25.35.
