NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Mandy Merritt has been named associate athletic trainer and physical therapist at the University of Notre Dame. In addition to serving as the department’s physical therapist, she also will be the trainer for the men’s lacrosse and men’s swimming and diving programs.

A six-year member of the athletic training field, Merritt worked the past two years as an assistant athletic trainer and physical therapist at the University of Delaware. While at the Newark, Del., school, her primary responsibilities included serving as the trainer for the men’s soccer, women’s lacrosse team and women’s basketball teams.

From 2005-07, Merritt served as the medical coordinator for the Battle of the Hotbeds Men’s Lacrosse Camp in Newark, Del., and was the chief communicator between doctors and parents as well as other medical personnel.

In the spring semester of 2005 Merritt served as the assistant athletic trainer for the men’s lacrosse team at Towson University.

Merritt began her career in the field of athletic training working as the graduate assistant athletic trainer for the men’s lacrosse team at Delaware from 2001-03.

Merritt also has served as a volunteer member of the Special Olympics of Delaware for both soccer and basketball since 1997. She was an integral member of the UD women’s soccer team and currently ranks in the top ten list for career goals, assists and points.

A 2001 graduate of the University of Delaware, Merritt received her bachelor’s of science in athletic training. In addition, she earned her doctorate of physical therapy from Delaware in 2005.
