Mackenzie Swinehart Joins Softball Staff As Volunteer Assistant

Mackenzie Swinehart, a 2021 First-Team All-MAC selection and Western Michigan’s all-time leader in games played has joined the Notre Dame softball coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2021-22 season.

“I’m excited to have Mackenzie join our staff,” Irish head coach Deanna Gumpf said. “She is an up and coming coach who will do great things in her future. She has the commitment, positive energy and motivation to help our program in so many ways on and off the field.”

Swinehart was a five-year standout at Western Michigan, finishing her career with a .355 batting average including a .393 mark in 2021 in which she led the Broncos in home runs (nine), hits (66), total bases (102), on-base percentage (.466) and slugging percentage (.607). She also set the school record with 44 runs scored in a season.

Swinehart’s name sits atop the WMU record books in games played (226), hits (262) and runs (153) while her .355 batting average ranks second all-time.

A native of Mattawan, Michigan, Swinehart graduated from Western Michigan with a degree in youth and community development.
