NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Junior John Lytle was named the BIG EAST Conference’s Athlete of the Week for swimming and diving, the league announced Wednesday. It marked the second time this season an Irish swimmer has won the league’s award, as Michael Sullivan claimed the honor on Nov. 12.
Lytle swept the 50 (20.96) and 100 Free (45.37) events in dual-meet action against Northwestern on Jan. 16. He also contributed a third-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay (1:35.00) against he Wildcats.
During Notre Dame’s trip to Oakland, Lytle finished first in the 100 (45.93) and 200 Free (1:40.91) events. The Clearfield, Pa., native capped off the Oakland meet with a second-place showing in the 200 Free Relay (1:24.76).
Lytle and the Irish will host the Shamrock Invitational this weekend (Jan. 23-24). Live stats and complete coverage will be available at UND.com
