NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Irish sophomore Luke Harangody (Schererville, Ind.) has copped BIG EAST Player of the Week honors for after leading Notre Dame to victories over North Florida, West Virginia and Connecticut. Harangody, who earns the honor for the first time this season after being named to the weekly honor roll on two occasions, averaged 21.7 points and 10.7 rebounds in helping Notre Dame to a 10-game win streak as the Irish improved to 12-2 and 2-0 in BIG EAST play.
Donte Green of Syracuse was the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week, while Jerome Dyson of Connecticut, Deonta Vaughan of Cincinnati, Arinze Onuaku of Syracuse, Kentrell Gransberry of USF and Alex Ruoff of West Virginia.
Harangody netted double figures in all three contests sand grabbed 10-plus rebounds in two of those games. He scored 22 points and grabbed six boards against North Florida and then in the BIG EAST opener against West Virginia finished the game with career-highs of 29 points and 16 rebounds. In the win over Connecticut, Harangody recorded his second straight double-double and seventh of the season when he finished with 14 points and 10 boards.
The 6-8 forward leads the Irish in both scoring and rebounding averaging 18.2 points and 9.5 rebounds. He has been Notre Dame’s leading scorer in six games and its top rebounder in nine contests. Harangody has netted double figures in all but one game and scored 20-plus points on six occasions. He also leads the team in field goal percentage at 52.5 percent.
A member of the 2007 BIG EAST All-Rookie Team, he was a three-time rookie-of-the-week honoree during the 2006-07 campaign.
