GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Pitt's Valeria Vazquez Gomez earned her second Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week award, while Notre Dame's Lucy Trump was selected as the ACC Volleyball Freshman of the Week.
Vazquez Gomez helped Pitt to an undefeated weekend, beating No. 13 Georgia Tech in five sets and a sweep of Boston College. The Manati, Puerto Rico, native had a career day against the Yellow Jackets, tying her career-best 22 kills while adding 14 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. On top of her .347 hitting percentage, she added two blocks and a career-high three aces. Her 26.5 points were the highest by a Panther in a single match since 2017. In Sunday's match against Boston College, Vazquez Gomez posted a .435 hitting percentage with five digs and two aces to lead Pitt to a share of the 2022 ACC Title.
Trump helped lead the Irish over the weekend with 28 kills, tallying 12 in a loss to No. 4 Louisville and registering 16 and averaging 4.0 kills per set in a four-set victory over Virginia Tech. She added six service aces - five against the Hokies - and 13 digs. The Florence, Kentucky, native posted a .281 hitting percentage through both matches. This is her first ACC Freshman of the Week award.
