NCAA Psych Sheet

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The 23rd-ranked women’s swimming and diving team had senior Luciana Thomas selected for the upcoming 2022 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, the selections announced by the NCAA this afternoon. The championships will be held at the McAuley Aquatic Pavilion in Atlanta, Georgia from March 16-19, the same location as the 2022 ACC Championships that were held last month.

Thomas earned her berth to the NCAA’s in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:55.06. She tallied her qualifying time for the 200 fly this past weekend at the Ohio State Last Chance meet to earn her spot in the championships. She also earned entry in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:44.96. She earned that time in the B Final at the ACC Championships, when she finished first in the final and ninth overall in the event.

In addition, four Irish divers — graduate student Kelly Straub, senior Annie Wiese, junior Samantha Gillis and freshman Calie Brady — will compete in the Zone C Diving Championships March 7-9 to earn a spot at the NCAA meet. The event will take place at the Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Straub qualified in all three events (1-Meter, 3-Meter and Platform) and is coming off a bronze medal from the ACC Championships. She made the finals in the 3-meter and platform events down in Atlanta and had the third-best score in the platform finals (287.65) to walk away with the bronze medal, the second of her career at ACC’s.

Wiese earned her spots in the 1-meter and 3-meter events after her scores against Purdue and at the Tim Welsh Invitational. She qualified in the 3-meter after a season-best mark of 299.55 against Purdue to place fourth. In the 1-meter, her season-best mark of 291.90 came at the Tim Welsh Invitational, where she also placed fourth in the event. Brady’s qualifying scores both came at the Tim Welsh Invitational. She finished second in the 3-meter (318.50) and second in the 1-meter (303.60) to earn her spot at the Zone Meet. Gillis earned her qualifying score at the dual meet against UIC. She placed fifth in the 3-meter with a season-best score of 285.75.
