Litzinger No Longer Notre Dame Swimming Head Coach

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Mike Litzinger has resigned as the Head Coach of Notre Dame’s Swimming & Diving program and in doing so has also announced his intention to retire from the sport of swimming, Vice President and James E. Rohr Director of Athletics Jack Swarbrick announced Monday. In addition to Litzinger’s departure, Associate Head Coach Aaron Bell is also no longer with the team.

“Making changes in the leadership of one of our programs is never easy, especially at the start of the competitive season, but recent events convinced Mike and me that a change in the direction of our program was necessary,” Swarbrick said.

The program will not be competing in the dual meet that was scheduled for this weekend.  “We will instead use this week to develop an interim plan designed to allow our student-athletes to compete this year, “ Swarbrick added.

Notre Dame’s diving program will continue to be under the direction of head diving coach Mark Bradshaw.

The swimming program at Notre Dame has a long lineage of success at all levels, including Olympians, a host of All-Americans and 38 conference team titles.

A national search for the next full-time leader of Notre Dame’s swimming program will begin later in the year.
