Lindsey Weaver Named BIG EAST Women's Golf Player Of The Month

Nov. 7, 2012

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – University of Notre Dame freshman Lindsey Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz.) has been selected BIG EAST Women’s Golf Player of the Month for the month of October, the league office recently announced.

Weaver earns the accolade after claiming three top-three individual finishes last month.

The Irish rookie tied for second with UC Davis’s Demi Runas (72-73-70) in a field of 81 competitors at the Windy City Collegiate Classic (Oct. 1-2) on the par-72 Glen View Club Golf Course (6,333 yards) firing a one-under-par 215 (70-71-74). Weaver finished just a mere stroke behind TCU’S April McCoy (73-72-69).

Weaver matched her second-place finish at the Susie Berning Maxwell Classic (Oct. 15-17) on the Jimmy Austin OU Golf Club’s par-72 course (6,327 yards). Weaver tied Sarah Schober from Redlands Community College in a field of 90 participants (72-70-69) as she finished with a five-under-par 211 (68-72-71) and nearly caught medalist Chirapat Jao-Javanil (70-71-68) from Oklahoma on her home course.

Hurricane Sandy cut away Weaver’s chances to gather her first medalist opportunity at the Landfall Tradition, held on the par-72 Nicklaus Golf Course (6,138 yards), as the freshman moved her way to first-place after play was called midway through the second round. Weaver finished third overall out of 90 competitors with a two-under-par 70 with UNC Wilmington’s Johanna Bjoerk and finished just three strokes behind Kimberly Kaufman from Texas Tech as only the first round of play counted in the team and individual scoring.

Weaver ranked as high as the No. 4 collegiate golfer in the nation during the month of October according to Golfweek and has advanced to the No. 3 spot as of Nov. 2.

She has led Notre Dame to a No. 14 ranking in the Gofstats Division 1 polls and is currently tied for eighth in the individual rankings.

Weaver owned a 70.85 stroke average in seven rounds of competition during the month of October and beat 60 of the 64 ranked opponents faced in the Golfstats poll, most notably owning a win over the former No. 1 golfer, Rachel Rohanna, from Ohio State.

The Irish will return to action Feb. 15-17, 2013, as they begin the spring portion of their schedule at the Mash Up Invitational which will be held at the Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.
