Lindsey Weaver Named BIG EAST Golfer Of The Week

March 14, 2013

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – University of Notre Dame freshman Lindsey Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz.) has been named the BIG EAST Women’s Golfer of the Week for the week of March 4-10, the league office announced Thursday afternoon.

Weaver earned the accolade after tying for ninth place last weekend (March 9-10) in the field of 94 competitors during the second annual Irish Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz. on the Longbow Golf Club’s par -72 course (6,209 yards).

Weaver’s contribution helped Notre Dame land a fifth-place finish in the field of 16 teams with a final team score of a 28-over-par 892 (298-298-296), finishing just a stoke behind fourth-place Tulsa.

The Irish rookie led Notre Dame through the 54-hole tournament with a one-over-par 217 (73-72-72). Weaver fired a three-under-par 33 on the back nine during the third round and capped off the remaining nine holes with an eagle on the 495-yard par-five. The eagle was her third of the season.

Weaver, currently the No. 7 golfer in the nation, defeated five top-100 ranked players throughout the two-day tournament.

Weaver moved into double digits with her total of even or under par rounds on the year as she gathered No. 10 during the final round of the Clover Cup. Weaver narrowly missed out by a stoke in obtaining her fourth tournament in which she fired even or under par in all combined rounds.

The honor is the second time this season the freshman has been awarded an accolade by the conference office. Weaver was recently named the BIG EAST Women’s Golf Player of the Month during the month of October after claiming three top-three individual finishes.
