Lindsey Green Splits Matches On First Day Of National Collegiate Tennis Classic

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Irish senior Lindsey Green lost her first-round singles match, but then came back for a victory in the consolation bracket Friday at the National Collegiate Tennis Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. Green, the only Notre Dame player competing in the first event of the Irish spring schedule, will continue play Saturday.

In her first match of the day, Green lost to UNLV’s Tracy Chong 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. She then rebounded in another three-set contest to defeat Ashley Robards of Tennessee 3-6, 6-1, 6-1.

Green has won three of her last four matches, dating back to the fall season, and improves to 3-1 in three-set matches this season.

Notre Dame,which is ranked 14th, returns six monogram winners and four of its top five players from last year’s squad which was 25-5, attained the program’s highest-ever ranking (5th) and finished the season ranked 10th. The Irish will open their dual-match season next Saturday, Jan. 26 with matches against Illinois State at 10 a.m. and Northern Iowa at 3 p.m. at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.
