ANN ARBOR, Mich. – University of Notre Dame men’s tennis junior Alex Lebedev’s run at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships came to an end Sunday as he won his first match of the day before falling in the quarterfinal at Michigan’s Varsity Tennis Center.
Lebedev won his first match against Illinois’ Zeke Clark in comeback fashion, dominating the final two sets after dropping the first, winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
The Island Park, New York, product looked to do the same against Michigan’s Runhao Hua in the quarterfinal, but his comeback bid came up short in a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 loss.
Up next for the Irish is a three-tournament weekend to wrap up the fall slate, where players will compete at the ITA National Fall Championships (Nov. 2-5, pending qualification), the Minnesota Gopher Invitational (Nov. 3-5) and the Illinois State Redbird Invitational (Nov. 3-5).

Joanne Norell, athletics communications assistant director at the University of Notre Dame, has been part of the Fighting Irish athletics communications team since 2014 and coordinates communications efforts for the Notre Dame men’s tennis, women’s tennis and fencing programs, in addition to overseeing production of the football Gameday Magazine. Norell is a 2011 graduate of Purdue University and earned her master’s degree from Georgetown University in 2013.
