Laura Winter Signs With Irish Softball

Dec. 7, 2009

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame head softball coach Deanna Gumpf recently announced that California’s Laura Winter has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Irish program in the fall of 2010.

“We could not be happier to have Laura join the Notre Dame softball family,” Gumpf said. “She is such a dominating athlete on the field and an equally impressive student and individual. Laura brings a wealth of experience to the program and has shown great success both as a pitcher and batter. While her stats speak for themselves, her presence, confidence and demeanor on the field will make her an outstanding asset to Notre Dame for years to come.”

Winter joins an Irish program that posted their 21st winning season in as many years with a 43-17 record in 2009. It was the 11th 40-win campaign in program history and fifth under Gumpf. Notre Dame also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 11th straight year and was ranked 25th in the final regular season NFCA Top 25 poll. The ranking was a first since 2004 and the first to end the season since 2002.

The Irish will wrap up their latest recruiting class in the near future.
