NOTRE DAME, Ind. – University of Notre Dame softball second baseman Katie Laing has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V softball team. Her name will now appear on the national ballot for a chance to be voted as an Academic All-American.
Laing is set to graduate with degrees in marketing and psychology this month as she sports an overall grade point average of 3.56.
The Tempe, Ariz., native and two-time BIG EAST Conference player of the week became the school’s all-time assists leader after recording seven against Louisville in the league tournament. Her 147 assists this season – also a school record – bumped her overall total 471. Laing’s 55 doubles ranks first all-time as well. She ranks 10th in program history in home runs (16) and sixth with 133 RBI.
Laing was one of six Notre Dame student-athletes this year that earned the Byron V. Kanaley Award, the most prestigious honor presented to an Irish student-athlete. The honor has been given each year since 1927 to senior monogram athletes who have been most exemplary as both students and leaders.
