Kyle Palmieri Selected To Preliminary Roster For 2010 World Junior Championships

Dec. 2, 2009

Colorado Springs, Colo. – USA Hockey today named 29 players to its preliminary roster for the 2010 U.S. Junior National Team that will participate in a three-day pre-tournament training camp Dec. 17-19 in Grand Forks, N.D.

Among those selected to the roster is Notre Dame freshman right wing Kyle Palmieri (Montvale, N.J.), who will compete for a spot on the team that will compete for the 2010 World Junior Championships that will be held in Saskatoon and Regina, Saskatchewan from Dec. 26, 2009 to Jan. 5, 2010.

The training camp will be highlighted with an exhibition game against the University of North Dakota men’s hockey team on Dec. 19. Following the camp, a reduced roster will play the Czech Republic on Dec. 22 in Regina, Sask., for Team USA’s final exhibition game.

Palmieri, a 2009 first round draft choice of the Anaheim Ducks, has played in 16 games for Notre Dame and is currently second on the team with five goals and has added a pair of assists for seven points. He has picked up eight penalties for 16 minutes and his 42 shots on goal tie him for second on the team in that category.

A 5-11, 195-pound right wing, Palmieri is a product of USA Hockey’s National Team Developmental Program where he played for the U.S. Under-18 team during the 2008-09 season. He could become the 13th Notre Dame player selected to play in the World Junior Championships, joining current teammates, Kyle Lawson (Sr., New Hudson, Mich.) in 2006-07, Ian Cole (Jr., Ann Arbor, Mich.) in 2007-08 and 2008-09 and Teddy Ruth (Jr., Naperville, Ill.) in 2008-09.

Palmieri and the 15th-ranked Irish are in action this weekend when they travel to Oxford, Ohio to face the top-ranked Miami RedHawks on Dec. 4-5 at Steve Cady Arena.
