Kyle Lynne Demeter, a member of the Notre Dame women's golf coaching staff since 2005, has been promoted to associate head coach, Fighting Irish head coach Susan Holt announced Thursday.

Kyle Lynne Demeter Promoted To Associate Head Women's Golf Coach

Sept. 24, 2015

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – During the past decade, the University of Notre Dame women’s golf team has grown by leaps and bounds, trimming more than 10 strokes off the program’s season stroke average and advancing to eight consecutive NCAA regionals, due in no small part to the talented leadership of head coach Susan Holt and her trusty aide, Kyle Lynne Demeter.

On Thursday, Holt announced that Demeter has been promoted to Fighting Irish associate head coach, a deserving honor for someone who has been instrumental in elevating Notre Dame women’s golf to some of the grandest heights it has seen in the program’s 28-year history. Demeter also continues her role as Fighting Irish recruiting coordinator, a post that seen her achieve remarkable success in recent years, most notably this fall, when Notre Dame welcomed a freshman class that included three of the nation’s top 50 golfers (something only one other school in the country could match for the 2015-16 season).

“Kyle has been critically involved in all aspects of our women’s golf program for the past 10 years,” Holt said. “I felt it was time to acknowledge the many contributions she has made to our program. There is no better way to do that than to make her an associate head coach. Together, we have created a culture here that we are both very proud of and believe in. I think we make a great team and look forward to the continued success of our women’s golf program.”

“I’m humbled and honored to receive this promotion,” Demeter said. “I have been so fortunate to work at one of the elite schools in the country and learn daily from a tremendous boss and mentor in Susan Holt. She has given me a great deal of freedom and latitude to learn and grow as a coach and I can’t thank her enough for the confidence she has shown in me.

“I’m also incredibly grateful to Coach (Ara) Parseghian and (the late former Notre Dame men’s and women’s golf coach) George Thomas, who reached out to me back in 2005 and recommended me for the assistant coaching job,” Demeter added. “Their wisdom and guidance, along with that of numerous other coaches here in the Notre Dame athletics department, has been invaluable and they’re a big reason why I’m here today.”

Since teaming up with Holt prior to the 2006-07 season, Demeter has helped the Fighting Irish post the top nine scoring averages in program history while also leading Notre Dame to eight consecutive NCAA regional appearances and the NCAA Championships for the first time in program history in 2010-11.

In fact, if you take into account her first year as an assistant coach (2005-06), Demeter has been a part of the top 10 scoring averages in the Notre Dame record books (helping to lower the school record for single-season team stroke average by 10 shots since her arrival a decade ago) and mentored 28 all-conference selections, including a pair of honorable mention All-Americans during her tenure under the Golden Dome.

That tradition of success continued in 2014-15, as the Fighting Irish compiled the best single-season stroke average in program history (296.60), more than two full strokes better than the previous school record (298.70 in 2012-13). Notre Dame also placed in the top 10 in all 10 tournaments it has played, including four top-five finishes (three in a row midway through the year, a first for the program since the fall of 2008) and the title at Michigan State’s Mary Fossum Invitational (a crown Notre Dame successfully defended earlier this month with a 14-stroke victory in East Lansing, Michigan).

In addition, Demeter remains the driving force behind the annual Notre Dame Clover Cup tournament, which will be held for the fifth year in March 2016 and is rapidly emerging as one of the top new tournaments on the college golf scene. Played at the Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona, with the considerable support of the Longbow community as well as Visit Mesa (the local convention and visitor’s bureau), Demeter remains one of the tournament’s annual organizers and coordinates the majority of tournament operations.

Along with this year’s Fighting Irish freshman class, Demeter has helped to attract numerous other high-level recruits, including current Symetra Tour veteran Becca Huffer (’12), who was a four-time all-BIG EAST Conference selection and presently ranks in the top 75 on the Symetra Tour money list.

A 2001 graduate of Saint Mary’s College and a recipient of a Master’s of Science and Education degree from Indiana University in May of 2009, Demeter and her husband, Kyle Joseph, make their home in South Bend.
