NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Kristy Frilling, a senior on the Notre Dame women’s tennis team, has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week, it was announced by the league Tuesday. The Sidney, Ohio, product finished 2-0 in singles play and 1-1 in doubles for the week.

Frilling opened her weekend with a singles victory over 22nd-ranked Lauren McHale of North Carolina, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles on Feb. 18. The following day, she took down 120th-ranked Allison Falkin of Illinois at the No. 2 court, 6-0, 6-1. In doubles action, Frilling again teamed with fellow senior co-captain Shannon Mathews (Birmingham, Mich.) to earn a split on the weekend. Despite falling to Rachael White and Allison Falkin of Illinois (8-5), the Irish tandem earned a significant win over the 24th-ranked Tar Heel duo of McHale and Shinann Featherston (9-7) to help the Irish capture the doubles point. Frilling and Mathews have now won four matches this season against ranked foes and rank third nationally.
