Knapp heads to USA Diving Winter National Championships

Just a few months into his collegiate career, freshman diver Daniel Knapp will be representing the Irish on one of the biggest stages possible.

Knapp is set to compete at the 2022 USA Diving Winter National Championships this week, which will be held at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown, W.V. The event will bring more than 100 of the country’s top divers to the state-of-the-art facility where they will compete for national championships in both individual and synchronized events.

The freshman from Mesa, Ariz., will compete in the 3M event. Notre Dame head diving coach Mark Bradshaw said he chose to focus on the single event because it is an Olympic event, while the 1M is not. Knapp could potentially meet the 2024 Olympic Trials standard while in West Virginia.

The competition will begin Wednesday, Dec. 14 and will conclude Sunday, Dec. 18 with the championships.

Through just a handful of meets thus far, Knapp has been the star of Notre Dame head diving coach Mark Bradshaw’s men’s squad this year. In his first tri-meet against Pittsburgh and Penn State, Knapp earned second place finishes in the 1M and 3M. He notched his first collegiate win against Louisville, winning the 3M and taking second in the 1M. At the Texas Diving Invitational just before Thanksgiving, Knapp took sixth place in the 1M against a hyper-competitive field.
