Kleiner Cops ACC Fencer of the Week Honors

Feb. 8, 2017

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – For the third straight week, a University of Notre Dame fencer has been recognized by the Atlantic Coast Conference as its Women’s Fencer of the Week.

Sophomore foilist Elyssa Kleiner was dubbed the ACC Co-Women’s Fencer of the Week on Wednesday after a dominant weekend at the Northwestern Duals. Kleiner led all Irish fencers with the best individual record during the elite event, going 20-1 on the weekend, including 15-1 against ranked opponents. Her steadiness on the strip helped the third-ranked Irish women to a 10-1 record on the weekend to improve to 33-4 on the season.

Kleiner, who shared the week’s honor with Duke’s Jennifer Ling, joins teammates Lee Kiefer and Amanda Sirico as Irish ACC Women’s Fencer of the Week honorees this season.

Kleiner and the Irish will be back in action as a team February 25-26 at the ACC Championships in Durham, North Carolina.
