Kildoo Named ACC Men's Cross Country Performer Of The Week

Sept. 23, 2014

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – After finishing first in the men’s five-mile race at the National Catholic Championships on Friday afternoon at the University of Notre Dame nine-hole golf course, Irish senior cross country runner Jake Kildoo earned Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Cross Country Performer of the Week honors Tuesday morning.

“I am very grateful for having been selected for this award,” Kildoo said. “As nice as it is to start off the season on such a positive note, I hope I can continue to improve and help my teammates to do the same.”

Without two of its top three runners at the National Catholic Championships, the Irish men’s team needed an excellent performance from Kildoo and he delivered, completing the course in 24:57.98 for his first collegiate victory. Kildoo’s spectacular run, along with a second-place finish from teammate Chris Marco, secured second for the Irish behind Canisius.

Regardless, the Grove City, Pa., product has kept the focus on his teammates.

“When all is said and done, I hope we will see some other Notre Dame runners recognized in the coming weeks,” Kildoo said.

The Irish return to action next Friday when it plays host to some of the nation’s top cross country program at the 59th annual Notre Dame Invitational.
