Keys To The Race: Great Lakes Regionals

MADISON, Wis. — The University of Notre Dame cross country team traveled to Madison, Wisconsin, on Wednesday, in preparation for its Great Lakes Regional Championship meet at 1 p.m. ET on Friday at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course.

The Great Lakes Regional Championship consists of 31 men’s teams and 34 women’s teams from Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.

The Irish travel roster includes a youthful men’s squad seeking experience in the postseason, while the women’s squad includes three of its top five runners from last year’s meet.

Great Lakes Regionals History
The Notre Dame men’s team won its last regional meet in 2001, when the team competed in Terre Haute, Indiana. The women’s team was last crowned champion in 2009 in Bloomington, Indiana.

On the men’s side, Wisconsin has placed first as a team in 10 of the last 12 seasons. Michigan’s men’s squad won two of the last three seasons, including the 2015 meet. Michigan’s women’s team has won the meet four times in the last five seasons.

Looking Back At 2015
The Notre Dame women finished second as a team in the 2015 Great Lakes Regional Championship (79 points). The team returns four women from last year’s regional roster, including Anna Rohrer (second, 20:18.4), Rachel DaDamio (21st, 21:02.6) and Annie Heffernan (28th, 21:14.9).

The Irish men’s team placed fourth at last year’s regional meet (127 points). The team has four runners returning to Madison for this year’s meet, including Jacob Dumford (39th, 31:39.9), Brent Kennedy (44th, 31:49.4), Chris Marco (48th, 31:52.9) and Anthony Williams (131st, 33:27.6).
