NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame fencing program compete at home for the second straight weekend as they take part in the Northwestern Duals on Saturday and Sunday inside the Castellan Family Fencing Center.

DeCicco Duals Details

For the second straight year, Notre Dame’s Castellan Family Fencing Center will serve as the host site for the Northwestern Duals while the Wildcats’ fencing facility undergoes renovations. Several elite teams will take part in the two day event, with the full roster of competing teams consisting of Air Force, Cal Tech, Cleveland State, Detroit-Mercy, Fairleigh Dickenson, Incarnate World, Lawrence, North Carolina, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn, Penn State, Princeton, Stanford, Temple, UC San Diego and Wayne State.

Last Time Out

Both Notre Dame men and women went undefeated last weekend at the annual DeCicco Duals, with the Irish men going 10-0 and the women going 11-0, including a 14-13 come-from-behind win over No. 8 Northwestern.

ACC Weekly Honors

The Irish swept the weekly ACC Fencer of the Week honors this week after their performance at the DeCicco Duals. Sophomore epeeist Amanda Sirico earned Women’s Fencer of the Week recognition after going 3-0 in Notre Dame’s win over Northwestern, including picking up the decisive point for the Irish. Senior sabreur Ian Dwyer picked up Men’s Fencer of the Week honors after going 17-1 on the weekend and helping the men’s sabre squad to a 9-1 record.

Joanne Norell, athletics communications assistant director at the University of Notre Dame, has been part of the Fighting Irish athletics communications team since 2014 and coordinates communications efforts for the Notre Dame women’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and fencing programs. Norell is a 2011 graduate of Purdue University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communication, and earned her master’s degree in sports industry management from Georgetown University in 2013.
