EUGENE, Ore. – Sophomore Kevin Schipper finished eighth in the men’s pole vault Thursday at Hayward Field to earn All-American status for the Notre Dame track and field program. Schipper put the Irish in the scoring column on the second day of the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, as Notre Dame is now tied for 27th.

Schipper cleared 5.30m (17-04.50) for the third-best outdoor mark in program history. He is also the first Irish student-athlete to be named All-American in the outdoor pole vault since Jim Harrington earned the distinction with a fifth-place showing in 1954.

Men’s 1,500m Run: Daniel Clark (3:42.20) was sixth in his heat and will advance to Saturday’s final round.

Men’s 10,000m Run: Dan Jackson (29:54.87) was 20th in the event.

Men’s Pole Vault: Schipper’s final clearance was bettered only by Kansas’ Jordan Scott and LSU’s Josh Dominguez, each of whom eclipsed the bar at 5.40m.

Women’s Heptathlon: Maddie Buttinger finished the championships in 19th place while tallying 4,935 points.
