Kevin Randall Selected In MLL Draft

Jan. 16, 2012

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Notre Dame senior defenseman Kevin Randall (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) was selected by the Charlotte Hounds in the 2012 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Collegiate Draft. Randall was the first pick in the seventh round (49th overall selection).

Randall is entering his third season as a starter on Notre Dame’s stifling defense. Last season, he started all 14 games and helped the Fighting Irish defense rank second in the nation by allowing just 6.57 goals per game. The Irish defense has finished each of the last two seasons ranked second nationally. Randall has played in 39 career games, including 33 starts, and has picked up 35 ground balls.

Last month, Randall received preseason honorable mention All-America honors from Inside Lacrosse in addition to being on the publication’s preseason all-BIG EAST team.

Cornell attackman Rob Pannell went first overall to the Long Island Lizards in the 2012 draft. The MLL is comprised of eight teams and the draft featured eight rounds and 64 totals picks.

Notre Dame has produced 20 MLL Collegiate Draft picks in the past seven years.

The ninth-ranked Fighting Irish will open their 2012 campaign Feb. 18 with a home showdown against No. 2 Duke. Notre Dame also will face the U.S. National Team for the second straight season as part of the Champion Challenge on Jan. 28 in Orlando, Fla.
