Kevin Goldthwaite Named Co-Defensive BIG EAST Men's Soccer Player of the Week

Sept. 9, 2002

Sophomore Kevin Goldthwaite (Sacramento, Calif.) has been named the BIG EAST Men’s Soccer Co-Defensive Player of the Week. The Irish defender, who shares the honor with Chris Wingert of St. John’s, was instrumental in leading Notre Dame to a 4-0 shutout of #6 Seton Hall on Sept. 7.

This is the second BIG EAST accolade for Goldthwaite, who last year copped rookie-of-the-week honors in the final week of the regular season. Against the Pirates, he was part of a Notre Dame defensive effort that limited Seton Hall to just six shots. He also assisted on the Irish’s first two goals of the game. Goldthwaite leads the team with three assists in 2002 and is the first Notre Dame player to earn one of the league’s weekly awards.

Notre Dame is currently 2-0-1 on the season and is ranked 14th in this week’s Soccer America poll.
