NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Matt Kerls has been named assistant equipment manager at the University of Notre Dame. The St. Louis, Mo. native will primarily work with the Irish football program, while also handling duties with the school’s 25 other varsity sports.

Prior to his appointment, Kerls served as the Notre Dame football personnel manager for the 2003-04 school year. His responsibilities included the coordination and training of student managers, supervision of equipment setup for football practices and assistance of Notre Dame’s defensive coaches during football games by charting opponents’ trends.

Beginning in 2001, Kerls served a two-year stint in Notre Dame’s student managers organization, during which he worked as a member of a team that assisted the head football equipment manager with many tasks associated with practice and games. He also worked as an assistant at the 2003 Notre Dame Football Camp, where he assisted in the organization of transportation for coaches and participants, in addition to assisting with the preparation of equipment.

Kerls earned a bachelor’s degree summa cum laude in accounting from the Mendoza College of Business, and another in economics, from Notre Dame in May 2004. He served as Morrissey Hall Assistant Hall Manager during the summer of 2002, and also was a member of the Student International Business Council.
