Kent State Maintains Lead After Two Rounds At Notre Dame Invitational & Central Regional Preview

Sept. 18, 2004

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Kent State’s one-two punch of senior Steve Lohmeyer and junior Ryan Yip continues to keep the Golden Flashes ahead of the field following Saturday’s second round at the Notre Dame Invitational & Central Regional Preview. KSU has carded a 36-hole total of 580 (+20), good for an 11-stroke lead over Colorado (591) heading into Sunday’s final round at the par-70, 7,011-yard Warren Golf Course on the Notre Dame campus.

Notre Dame maintained its hold on fifth place, shooting a 19-over 299 for the second consecutive day and posting a two-round total of 598. Michigan State (592) currently is third behind Kent State and Colorado, with Texas Tech in fourth (593) and Indiana joining the Irish in the fifth position. No. 25 SMU shot the low team round of the day, firing an 11-over par 291 to jump from 15th to 11th place in the 15-team field.

Lohmeyer posted an even-par 70 on Saturday, giving up a two-round score of one-under par 139 (69-70) and a one-stroke edge over Yip, who is even for the tournament at 140 (68-72). Xavier’s Jason Kokrak and SMU’s Will Dodson turned in Saturday’s low individual rounds, taking advantage of ideal weather conditions to card matching 68s (-2).

Junior Eric Deutsch (Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) leads the Notre Dame contingent, tying for seventh place after the second day with a five-over par 145 (73-72). Sophomore Cole Isban (South Bend, Ind./Mishawaka Marian) now stands in a 14th-place tie at eight-over par 148 (72-76), while freshman Greg Rodgers (Phoenix, Md./St. Paul’s) surged into 23rd place at 10-over par 150 (77-73). Freshman Mike King (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney) is in a deadlock for 51st place at 15-over par 155 (77-78), while sophomore Shane Sigsbee (McKinney, Texas/McKinney) completed the Irish scoring with a tie for 72nd place at 21-over par 161 (79-82).
