Kebba Njie is Officially Irish

Shrewsberry adds post player to boost frontline

SOUTH BEND, IN Glenn & Stacey Murphy Head Men’s Basketball Coach Micah Shrewsberry has added another post player to bolster his roster for next season in Penn State transfer Kebba Njie. The 6-10 forward out of Centerville, Ohio, officially became Irish on Wednesday.

“Kebba is a great addition to our Notre Dame basketball family,” Shrewsberry stated. He is a hard worker, good student, and a great teammate who will fit the values of Notre Dame. He competed night in and night out versus some of the best bigs in the country & played a big part in helping (Penn State) reach the NCAA Tournament. I’m excited to continue working with him during this next phase in his development.”

Njie played in all 37 games last season at Penn State, which included 26 starts as a true freshman. He ultimately averaged 3.4 points and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 52.0 percent from the field in an average of 14.3 minutes per contest.

Some notable performances included grabbing a career-high nine rebounds in the Big Ten Tournament semifinal win over No. 19 Indiana and going a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor for eight points in the team’s NCAA Tournament win over No. 17 Texas A&M. Njie scored a season-best 12 points against Loyola Maryland and collected a season-best four blocks against Quinnipiac.

Njie is no stranger to Indiana, for he played his final two high school seasons at La Lumiere after two at Centerville High School in Ohio. Njie was a starter on the 2021-22 La Lumiere team that advanced to the GEICO Nationals. Njie was a consensus four-star recruit out of high school and was rated the No. 16 power forward in the country at the time.
