Kavadas Named Collegiate Baseball National Players of the Week

NOTRE DAME, Indiana — University of Notre Dame student-athlete Niko Kavadas was named one of Collegiate Baseball’s National Players of the Week after leading the Irish in a number of categories in the series sweep over Presbyterian this past weekend.

“Niko works very hard at his craft,” said head coach Link Jarrett. “The quality of his at-bats this past weekend were outstanding as was his use of the field. He drove balls well from line to line.”

The junior from Granger, Indiana led the Irish in 2019 with 12 home runs and his power surge was back in South Carolina. Kavadas launched four home runs over the three game series to lead the team, along with team-high nine RBI and had a slugging percentage of 1.125.

Kavadas set career highs on Friday with two home runs and five RBI. His first home run of the game was the go-ahead three run blast in the seventh inning. Kavadas added a two-run shot in the ninth to put the game out of reach in the 13-5 win.

In his first at-bat on Saturday, Kavadas hit another two run homer in the first inning to give him three home runs in his previous four at-bats. On Sunday in the ninth, he capped the weekend off with his fourth home run, another two-run shot to right field and put a cap on the 9-0 series sweep win.
