Notre Dame, Ind. – Julie Baclene has been named associate athletic trainer and physical therapist at the University of Notre Dame.

A 21-year veteran as a physical therapist, Baclene spent the last 10 years (since 1996) as a physical therapist at the University of California, Davis. In addition, she served as one of the school’s athletic trainers for its 23 varsity athletic teams.

Since 1997, she has provided physical therapy at the Children’s Therapy Center in Woodland, Calif., for children up to 18 years old with developmental and orthopedic disabilities.

From 1995-96, she was the clinic director for the Therx Rehabilitation Center in Vacaville, Calif. While there, Baclene directed and supervised a staff of four in an outpatient orthopedic clinic that dealt primarily with work related and auto related injuries. That marked her second stint at Therx where she served as associate clinic director from 1990-92.

Baclene also was a home health therapist with various home health agencies throughout Solano, Contra Costa and Napa counties from 1990-94.

She began her career as a physical therapist at the Munster Community Hospital in Munster, Ind., from 1985-87. Baclene then moved to the Chicagoland Orthopedic Rehabilitation and Sportsmedicine in Palos Heights, Ill., from 1987-88, before taking a position at Exertec Physical Therapy in Fairfield, Calif.

Baclene also has served as a physical therapist and trainer for USA Wrestling and for the USA Olympic Track and Field trials and the NCAA Track and Field Championships.

A 1983 graduate of Coe College, Baclene received her bachelor’s of arts in biology with a minor in psychology. In addition, she earned her bachelor’s of science in physical therapy from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo.
