Senior tri-captain John Stephens will now have a chance to become a CoSIDA Academic All-America selection.

John Stephens Named To ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team

Notre Dame senior midfielder John Stephens (Woodridge, Ill./Benet Academy) has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic-All District men’s soccer team. Stephens, a tri-captain for the Fighting Irish, has started 16 of 18 matches so far this season with one goal and three assists for five points. Stephens carries a 3.857 cumulative grade-point average as an economics major in the College of Arts and Letters.

Joining Stephens on the all-district five team was goalkeeper Chris Munroe (Indiana), midfielders Adam Hermsen (DePaul), Adam Ben-Zikri (Wisconsin-Green Bay), Patrick Reilly (Butler), defenders Steve Bode (Wisconsin-Milwaukee), Adam Hage (Bradley), Jason Pele (Evansville), Neil Dombrowski (Wisconsin-Milwaukee), forwards Joel Nierzwicki (Loyola-Ill.), Christopher Ede (Wisconsin).

Stephens, whose five points are a personal career-high for a single season, has played in 58 career games for the Fighting Irish. His name will now appear on the national ballot for the chance to become CoSIDA Academic-All America.

Notre Dame will battle St. John’s in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Championship on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Jamaica, N.Y.
