Millar has been a member of the Notre Dame Track & Field program since 1990, a span of19 seasons. Among Millar’s accomplishments are being part of the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year 14 times in the past 11 years, coaching eight BIG EAST meet team champions in the past 14 seasons. On the indoor side, guiding the men’s and women’s teams to top-three team finishes 18 times. Seven Notre Dame student-athletes have achieved BIG EAST conference meet records and 178 student-athletes have competed in the NCAA championship meet.

“John has been a crucial part of the success of our programs,” says head coach Joe Piane. “Combined, our cross country and track and field programs, have won 22 BIG EAST championships since he arrived at Notre Dame. I can confidently say that without him, it would have not been possible. John will be greatly missed.”

“Notre Dame has been a very special place to me over the past 19 years,” states Millar. “In addition to the great experiences I have had coaching, I have also had the pleasure of watching my son graduate from Notre Dame. I certainly appreciate all that Joe Piane has done for me, both personally and professionally over the years and I cannot thank him enough for his support. As I make the move to Wake Forest, I plan to emulate what we have done here at Notre Dame and hope to achieve the same level of success. I feel very fortunate to have been a part of such a tremendous institution for as long as I have, which is why this was such a difficult decision for me to make. I will forever be grateful to my fellow coaches, the athletic department staff and most importantly the student-athletes, who have made my tenure here one filled with a number of wonderful memories.”
