John Michael Bertrand Named ACC Pitcher of the Week

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Left-handed pitcher John Michael Bertrand was named ACC Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. He is the second Irish pitcher to earn the honor this season after Austin Temple was named pitcher of the week back in March.

Bertrand had one of his best starts of his Irish career Friday night on the road against fifth-ranked Florida State. Going up against reigning ACC Pitcher of the Year Parker Messick, Bertrand tossed a season-high 7.2 innings of scoreless ball with a career-high 12 strikeouts and just one walk. The 12 strikeouts were the most by an Irish pitcher since 2019 when Cameron Brown had 12 against Florida State.

The Irish eventually won the game, 2-0, in 12 innings to begin their series sweep against the fifth-ranked Seminoles. Friday’s extra inning affair was the first time the Seminoles were shutout in an extra-inning game in program history. The series sweep against Florida State was the first time in Notre Dame program history that they swept a road series over a Top-5 team.
