Notre Dame associate athletic director John Heisler received the Scoop Hudgins Outstanding Sports Information Director Award Thursday night at the All-American Football Foundation 54th Banquet of Champions in Chicago.

The award is named after long-time Southeastern Conference sports publicist Elmore “Scoop” Hudgins.

Last month Heisler received the Heisman Memorial Trophy Excellence Award for outstanding and significant contributions to collegiate football. Jim Corcoran, president of the Heisman Memorial Trophy Committee, presented the award at a Sept. 19 dinner.

Heisler has been part of the Notre Dame athletic administration since 1978. He served as sports information director from 1988 through 2003. He currently oversees athletic media relations, as well as broadcast properties, scheduling and technology for athletics.

Others with Notre Dame connections honored at the All-American Football Foundation dinner included: 1953 Heisman Trophy winner John Lattner (Golden Anniversary All-American Award); Marty Wendell and the late Leon Hart and George Connor (All-American Football Legends); late Irish assistant coaches George Kelly and Joe Moore (Mike Campbell Top Assistant Coach Award) and recently-retired Joyce Center administrator Joe Sassano (President Gerald R. Ford All-American High School Coach Award) for his tenure at Weber High School in Chicago.
