NOTRE DAME, Ind. – John DeFilippo, quarterback coach at Fordham last season, has joined the University of Notre Dame football coaching staff as a graduate assistant.

DeFilippo replaces Dan Mullen, who accepted an assistant coaching position at Bowling Green in December when former Irish receiver coach Urban Meyer was named the Bowling Green head coach.

The 22-year-old DeFilippo also served as junior varsity offensive coordinator at Fordham last fall in addition to his duties with the quarterbacks.

He’s a former four-time letterwinner as a quarterback at James Madison in Harrisonville, Va., where he earned all-Atlantic 10 Conference Academic honors four straight seasons and helped the team to the league title as a senior in 1999.

A 2000 James Madison graduate with a degree in speech communication and a concentration in public relations, he also served summer coaching internships in 1997 with the National Football League Carolina Panthers and in ’98 with the Indianapolis Colts.

Born April 12, 1978 in Philadelphia, he’s the son of current Boston College director of athletics Gene DeFilippo.
