Joe Alt Named FWAA Freshman All-American

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — University of Notre Dame offensive lineman Joe Alt was named a Freshman All-American Monday afternoon by the Football Writers Association of America. It is the third-straight season the Irish have had a Freshman All-American and Alt is the first Irish offensive lineman to earn the honor since Sam Young in 2006.

Alt played in all 13 games this season and started the last eight games at left tackle. Alt helped stabilize the running game as the Irish rushed for 150 yards or more as a team in seven of the eight games he started. Notre Dame eclipsed the 200-yard mark in three of those games, including a season-high 293 yards against Notre Carolina. Alt paved the way for Kyren Williams to rush for a career-high 199 yards in the win. It was the most rushing yards by an Irish player since Dexter Williams totaled 202 in 2018 and the most rushing yards by the team since 2020 against Florida State.

In the Fiesta Bowl against Oklahoma State, Alt was one of two true-freshmen (Blake Fisher) to start on the offensive line. It was the first time in program history that two true-freshmen started on the offensive line in the same game.

Alt was also named a Freshman All-American by Pro Football Focus and he was on the watch list for the Sean Alexander Freshman of the Year Award.
