Jim Marlatt Named BIG EAST Offensive Player Of The Week

March 13, 2012

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame sophomore midfielder Jim Marlatt (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) has been named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for men’s lacrosse. Marlatt registered two goals and two assists in Saturday’s 6-5 overtime win at No. 19 Hofstra.

The four points were a career-high total for Marlatt. His second goal tied the contest, 4-4, with 1:02 left in regulation. He then assisted on Sean Rogers’ game winner in overtime. Marlatt’s first goal gave the Irish a 1-0 lead and his first assist put Notre Dame back on top, 2-1.

Marlatt is the third Fighting Irish player to receive a BIG EAST player-of-the-week award this season. Last week, Rogers, a senior attackman, was tabbed as the offensive player of the week, while junior goalie John Kemp was named the defensive player of the week on Feb. 20.

Marlatt leads the Irish with seven points this season on five goals and two assists. The goal and assist total are both tied for the team lead.

The seventh-ranked Fighting Irish (3-1) are back in action on Sunday with a home showdown versus No. 9 Denver (4-1). Faceoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. (ET) at Arlotta Stadium. The game will be aired on ESPNU.
