Feb. 1, 2011

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame track and field sophomore middle-distance runner Jeremy Rae (Fort Erie, Ontario/Lakeshore Catholic) was named BIG EAST Male Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league Tuesday afternoon.

Rae earned the honor after winning the 800-meter run in 1:49.15 at the Indiana Relays this past weekend. Indiana University played host to the meet and was held at the Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse. That accomplishment makes him the No. 8 ranked 800-meter student-athlete in the nation according to tffrs.org. Additionally, Rae has the fastest 800-meter time in the BIG EAST.

The sophomore was one of four student-athletes to grab BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field weekly honors. On the women’s side, Sheila Reid was selected as the BIG EAST Female Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. The selected field athletes were Tim Nedow of DePaul and St. John’s Priscilla Frederick.

The Irish continue their indoor season this Friday and Saturday with the prestigious Meyo Invitational Invitational inside the Loftus Sports Center in Notre Dame, Ind. The action is set to begin at 5:00 p.m. (ET) on Friday, beginning with the men’s long jump.
