Jeremy Rae And Johnathan Shawel Are Headed To NCAA Finals

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Sophomore Jeremy Rae and junior Johnathan Shawel will join teammate Jack Howard at the NCAA Finals in Des Moines, Iowa. The duo qualified for the Championship meet in the 1,500-meter run Saturday at the NCAA East Regional, which was held at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex in Bloomington, Ind.

Rae notched a second-place finish for the Irish in 3:46.75, while Shawel finished in fourth place in 3:47.13. Junior J.P. Malette missed qualifying by one spot and less than a half of a second as he placed eighth in 3:48.77.

Sophomore Rebecca Tracy concluded her season with an eighth-place finish in 4:21.81 to miss qualifying for the NCAA Championship by one spot and less than one second.

Rae and Shawel along with Howard return to the NCAA Championship meet after being a part of the 2011 distance medley relay that earned All-American honors during the Indoor Championship in College Station, Texas.

The 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championship is set to be held in Des Moines, Iowa and Drake University will play host to the four-day event that begins June 8.
